Royal Selangor Club (3♦)

The Royal Selangor Club is a club for socializing in Kuala Lumpur. It is situated conveniently beside the famous landmark in Kuala Lumpur, the Merdeka Square, Kuala Lumpur. The club is accessible via Jalan Raja and is sometimes the host for certain matches from the Cricket World Cup.

The Royal Selangor Club has been around for more than 100 years. Most of its early records of its history were gone during the Japanese occupation from 1942 to 1945. Some of its records were also missing from a fire back in 1970. The club was founded in 1884 and was initially named the Selangor Club. It served as a meeting place for high ranked and educated members of the British colonial society. The club went over a facelift back in 1910 when Arthur Benison Hubback redesigned the club. Over the years, the membership has increased as many distinguished Malaysian civil servants start to join the club

Back in 1900s, the club was also used as a hall for theatrical performances as there were no available halls back then. Ever since the beginning, the Royal Selangor Club has been the host for many sporting events especially cricket. It is from the Long Bar there sporting events can be viewed from. Other attraction near the club is none other than Merdeka Square where declaration of independence took place back in 1957.
